Speculative Theology?

So What Is ‘Speculative Theology?’

Look. I agree that false teaching, especially in this day and age, is a serious problem. In my church and in my Sunday School class I try to be cautious and orthodox…even Fundamentalist.

But that doesn’t mean that I can’t think about those “what-if?” questions and where they might lead. I don’t do it in church, at least not much. But over a cup of tea with friends, or out on a walk along a lonely railroad track, I’m likely to mull over, “You know, just suppose….”

And so “Speculative Theology” in my mind is to accepted theology as science fiction is to accepted science…out there, perhaps, and not supportable by what we know, or at least think we know, right now…but if a few underlying assumptions turn out different from what we now presume, then maybe, just maybe…!

As I set down some of my ideas into words, I’ll come back here from time to time and give some insight into the thought processes behind them. Stay tuned!
